Observation

Recently I've become enamored with Google Reader a RSS feed reader w/ajax for the web. I've always been a "power surfer", in the days of IE 3 I generally had between 15 - 20 windows open and active at any given moment. Heaven help my PC if I was actively searching for something. Firefox has helped remove some of the clutter from my typically over crowded desktop by placing all my windows into tabs but even now I find myself opening up a seperate window occasionally for lack of "space". Google Reader has further reduced the strain on my poor system by collecting all the sites I normally view into one page that ajaxically TM, yeah I invented that word, updating when the site itself updates. This condenses even more of my tabs into a format that also has the added benefit of allowing me to check on "my" sites when ever and where ever I am more efficiently.

All that is the background for my observation, Fedex and UPS need RSS feeds. I am one of those people that obsessively checks their tracking information no matter how reliable the shipper/shipping carrier/package value/package size/weather conditions/etc. involved. I just have to know where my package is NOW! If they had a RSS feed then I'd be able to see when there was an update in Reader and maybe I could spend more of my precious time refeshing some other site.

Hey Jesse,
I was Googling SouthTrust tonite, for no particular reason, and came across your page. I was reading your blog and know about how ya felt on your last day at the bank. I'm at WB now, but it ain't the same! Each month after the "Merger" as another wave of friends said goodbye, I felt like I was losing family...no...wait...I WAS losing family! Things are not the same, not by a long shot! Several of us are still there, Tuck & Peggy, Joe Nolen, Perry Overton, myself, Anita Walls, Randy Berube, Alan Mcmillan is back, Robert Lansdell is back, Kerry Hollis still hanging in there, Kim Smith (was Chestnut) and a few others. Some of us are planning a SouthTrust Renunion (previously called "Ain't Gettin Any (Profit Sharing)" party, modeled after the great times we all used to have that 3rd Thursday in January when we got to hear our (at the time) beloved leader tell us how special we were and he'd NEVER sell us(...well...we know how that went)...pick up our profit sharing checks and head out to one of the local watering holes like Tommy Tunes or later Stir Crazy then after consuming mass quantities, head over to Jitterbugs for some post game dancing and carousing! Anyhow, hope all is well with ya and we have a monthly get-together at Sol Azteca in Vestivia on the last (or is it the 4th?) Firday of the month, so if ya are still around town, head on over! About all of us are IT folks, and most of em are/were programmers...you'd know most of em... see ya 'round!
